Fragmented

Fragmented is a card-based tabletop puzzle game about piecing together shards of memories. It tells the story of an old woman recollecting what she once had but what has been lost over the years.

Every day it takes more effort
to remember.

But I am not yet ready
to forget.

RULES

Recollect 9 memories by piecing together the fragments of each memory. A memory is complete when all fragments are placed as part of the memory.

Sometimes it’s difficult to remember. Unrelated memory fragments may come to mind or the memory may feel incomplete. You may move to the next memory as long as all fragments of the memory are present and not covered by unrelated fragments.

Memory cards are numbered and each memory lists the cards containing fragments. Go through the memories in order, starting with 1.

Note: in the current version of the game, all cards are not properly numbered by accident, which makes the game unintentionally difficult as one also needs to find the correct cards in addition to actually solving the puzzle with them.

ABOUT

The game was designed for Games Now Jam Autnumn 2023 organized by Aalto University, with the theme: "Missing". In this game, this word can be interpreted both as longing for the good old days and having lost something one should have, but will never again.

Instead of developing a digital game like most other games created for the jam, I wanted to try creating a physical card-based puzzle game instead. I find the concept to be quite intriguing but in order to achieve its full form, more work would be needed to put into this after the jam. For now,  the continuation of the project is unlikely.
