A downloadable Christmas Card

Christmas Card Game is an experimental game of real life interaction between an unlimited number of players. Apart from the players, the only component of the game is the Christmas Card. By giving the Christmas Card forward to someone else, the players can invite new players to the game and gain collective points. Points are awarded based on the dates during which the Card changes its owner and trough how many players it managed to travel during the duration of December 2022.

DECEMBER 2022 GAME
First run of the game ran trough December 2022 with 3 teams competing with each other.

For players: Please consider using  Player Form to share the current progress of the game. Sharing progress is optional but for score calculation the last player should share these images at the end of the game.

For spectators: Participate to the game as a spectator and gamble on the winning team. Fill Spectator Form to guess the end results of the competition. Result of the prediction competition are published here at the end of the competition (early January). Note that you can only take part in either as a player or a spectator. If you wish to participate as a player after filling Spectator Form,  notify organizer trough the Player Form (remember to include the name used for spectator competition) to withdraw from spectator participation.

The December 2022 game has ended. There was less players participating than what I expected and not all teams sent image of the end result for scoring. Because of this, only the results of the winning team will be announced.

Winning team:
Team 1 with a total of 8 points. Congratulations Dani and the rest of the team (who wished to stay anonymous)!

ABOUT

Christmas Card the game was created for Games Now Online Jam 7 (GNOJ#7) organized by Aalto University. Theme of the game jam was Winter with the special restriction of No code Low Code meaning that the participants were encouraged to create games with as little programming as possible.

To me the best part of Winter is Christmas and playing board games with my family. Based on that the goal of this mini game project is to encourage positive real life interaction in the context of games and Christmas. Additionally, it was a chance for exploring a new kind of game experience. Lastly, the game was inspired by the restriction of the jam. Needless to say, I did not use any programming at all for the creation of this game.

CREDITS

The game was created by Miro Aurela.

I want to also thank all players who participated in this experimental game. Special thanks to DB and Dani who sent me images of the cards to see how the game is going.

An interesting idea to turn a christmas tradition into a competition. Some tens of years ago play by mail games were a niche some people played, this game brings the tradition back with very simple, warm spirited gameplay. (The play by mail games of old very napoleonic wars and so on)

Hi, and thanks for your comment!

I've also heard of those kind of games but never actually played any of them, so I don't really know how they were like. But what you described "simple" and "warm sprited" was exactly what I was trying to achieve with this game. The competition element between the teams was actually just an extra element, attempting to motivate certain groups of people who really enjoy competetivenes in games. Originally, I actually intended it to be fully cooperative game with only 1 team. But in the late phases of the design I suddendly had the idea of multiple cooperational teams playing the game at the same time (and then possible trying to compete with the other teams).
